UCONN vs. Cincy Highlights

UCONN spanked Cincy the past weekend.  UCONN defense was totally dominating to say the least.  It was a great day in East Hartford, CT.  Props to UCONN defense and the freshman QB and kicker.  What a great day for UCONN football.  Bring out WVU next week.

Check out UCONN vs. Cincy highlights.

UCONN vs. Cincy

This will be a tough game.  Cincy is a very good team no one talks about.  They got a great coach, great D and they got pretty good offense.  It will be a huge test for the Huskies after 3 road games.

The crowd should be good.  UCONN will probably start their 3rd string QB in Cody Endres.  I hope the kid is ready to play.  It should be a good game for the BE.

Take that SEC

All year we have been hearing homers all over ESPN and CBS proclaiming SEC as the best conference in college football.  No one can beat SEC teams blah blah blah.   SEC teams are all pure defense and no one can score on them.  Auburn coach Tuberville was talking smack before the game saying “their conference does not have to deal with nearly the teams of the caliber of our conference blah blah..”

Well, coach, you are lucky you don’t have to deal with WVU week in and week out either.  They just kicked the crap out of your team on national TV.  They just gave you the worst whopping you got the entire season on TV.  Oh yeah, Rutgers put up a better fight against WVU than the Auburn Tigers.

Well, what they don’t talk about is the following:

1.  SEC teams don’t score against each other because maybe their offenses suck?  SEC does not really have many good QBs.  Outside the guy from Georgia and Tim Tebow, who else in the conference scare you as a QB?  B12 has many good QBs this year.  SEC, not so much.

2.  SEC teams pretty much play all their games at home.  Let’s see a SEC team’s annual schedule.  They got the Sunbelt conference for the OOC games with all the games at home no less.  They get to play Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss St and Kentucky every year.  In most years those are the bottom of the SEC so top teams beat them like rented mules.  So, at end of every year they get to 8-10 wins and get to face a B10 team in the bowl game.  B10 is another overrated hyped conference with teams like OSU who get their butt kicked if they actually left Columbus, Ohio to play a game or two.  SEC teams always looked good beating up over hyped B10 teams.  Like last year, does anyone really think LSU was the best team in the country after they beat another terrible paper tiger in Ohio State Buckeye?  At end of the last year, the best team on the field was WVU and USC.  Did you see what WVU did to the supposed super football team Oklahoma?  USC made smurfs out of Illinois in the Rose Bowl also.

3.  People constantly bash the BE.  Well, guess what?  BE got some damn good football teams.  SEC teams might not want to play WVU again.  in 2004, SEC champ Georgia was ran over by WVU.  Auburn got their turn last night.  Auburn also got their butt beat in at home last year by USF.  WVU ran over them up and down the field.  The score could have been worse if WVU did not turn it over in the 1st half.  What happened to that awesome Auburn defense?  They were nowhere to be found when faced with a team that have actual speed.  Yeah, BE speed.

4. I already know what SEC fans gonna say.  They gonna say Auburn suck and the beating is not real.  Yeah right…

We need a college football playoff badly.  If we leave it up to those idiots from ESPN or CBS to determine the best team, they always gonna pick some fancy team from SEC, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame or Ohio State.

I think teams like Boise State can beat a lot of those teams.  I think WVU can ran over many of those teams also.  We need a playoff now.

Preview of UCONN vs. Louisville football game this Friday

This should be a good one.  It will be a good test for both teams.  UCONN is 4-0 coming off a win against Baylor from the B12.  BTW, I think Baylor gonna surprise some people in the B12 this year.  I can see them beating a few teams.  They have a young and talented team.  Their QB is a stud and he is only a freshman.

As for the Louisville game, well let’s just say UL fans have not forgot the “catch” last year.  The play where Larry Taylor signaled for a fair catch but the refs did not see it.  Then Larry took off and scored a TD.  It pissed the UL fans to no tomorrow since they blamed on that call as the reason they lose the game.  Of course, those guys forgot they had a 10 points lead going into the 4th quarter.  UCONN came back strong in the 4th to win the game.  Those are minor details UL fans forgot.  In addition, they also did not point out calls that went against UCONN and took away an UCONN TD.  To them, those are minor details.  Here is a good video that summarized the calls last year.

It should be a good game regardless. If UCONN can run the ball, it can win the game. UCONN needs to control the clock and score on long drives. In addition, UCONN D needs to force UL to become one dimensional. If UCONN can stop UL run offense, it can win the game. UL, of course, features one of the best freshman RB in Victor Anderson. UCONN will counter with its own tough RB Donald Brown.

It should be a good game and I can’t wait.

Excellent analysis on the UCONN/Temple game no Call Last Year

Uconn fan Santini did an excellent frame by frame analysis of the no call last year when UCONN beat Temple.  Temple fans were crying that refs gave the game to UCONN.  In reality, refs made the right call.  Here is the step by step analysis of that call.

Temple circled this year’s UCONN vs. Temple as their Superbowl and they pimped it as such throughout the preseason. They said Karma is a bi@ch. Anyway, the game was played in front of a storm with a few Temple fans. It was an ugly game. UCONN ran all over Temple up and down the field. Donald Brown was a beast with 214 yards rushing and the winning TD. UCONN kept Temple in the game with bunch of miscues. Here are places where UCONN could have scored:

1. Tyler Lorenzen’s 1 yard fumble at Temple 1 yard line. It could easily be a TD.
2. Tyler missed a wide open UCONN WR in the end zone when UCONN was deep into Temple red zone.
3. UCONN’s 3 missed FGs.

Yeah justice was served this past Sat. The better team won.

What good coaching can do for you

UCLA was pretty sorry last season.   They went out and hired a couple of new coaches in Rick Neuheisel and Norm Chow.  All suddenly, they are playing like they are ready to play in the Rose Bowl.

I was amazed how improved UCLA looked in the 2nd half against Tenn.  UCLA offense looked like crap in the 1st half with Craft threw 4 INTs.  He looked like Joe Montanna in the 2nd half.  Norm Chow made all the adjustments against a tough Tenn D and picked them apart in the 2nd half.

That was simply amazing.  I thought it would take UCLA at least 2 years to get the right players etc.  However, they seem to be ready by next year.

UCLA got a tough test coming up in BYU.  We will see what they are made of.

This also proved that SEC teams that get out of their backyard can get their butt beat in.  Last year Tenn went to Cal and got hammered.  SEC teams usually play 8 home games a year while loading up on cupcakes.  Meanwhile, they got media guys on ESPN and CBS pimping them day and night like they are the pro league.  With all the money they got, it is not surprising they got some tough teams.  That and whenever any coach at another D1A is getting good, SEC teams simply offer more money and steal the guy away.
Anyway, I am so happy college football has started.  It should be a fun season.  I just hope we don’t have to hear SEC homers day in and day out despite being the toughest conference this year.

Norm Chow, on the other hand, is just a pure genius and great coach.  How come he can’t get a head coaching job?  Is it his skin color?  Meanwhile, guys like Wanny at Pitt can’t coach for a lick but he get job after job through the old boys network.

Watch out USC, here comes UCLA!

Olympics withdrawl – Who won the Olympics?

Man it has been weird now that Olympics is over.  It was fun.  It was great seeing all the athletes in HD.  Ursain Bolt was just fantastic.  China did an awesome job promoting the game.  Some observations:

1.  I did not see anyone die of pollution as claimed by many Western media.  In fact, the marathon runner for men broke the Olympic record and he did not spit out black matter when he was running.  Gee, what happened to all those complains about the pollution?  I am sure China has pollution issues but the Western media made it sound like people would die if they breath the air in Beijing.

2.  Water Cube and Bird’s Nest are both fantastic venues. Never seen people cheering so hard for diving.  it was awesome.

3. I think I know every detail of Michael Phelps by now. I feel sorry for other USA athletes like Natalie Coughlin. She won 6 medals and no one in USA cared. Well, at least according to NBC. While Phelps did a fantastic job, I feel like many other USA athletes are left out. My personal favorite is Bryan Clay (). The guy won the decathlon and no one cared. I think his accomplishment is pretty damn impressive.

I want to give some props to Natalie and Bryon. I feel like the media totally ignored them and it is not right.

Bryon Clay
Natalie

So who did win the Olympics?  This article summarized it pretty good:

Beijing might be the first sold out Olympics

People in China is treating Olympics bigger than Super Bowl.  Tens of thousands of people lined up for days waiting for tickets.  Violence broke out cause some people decided to cut lines.  It was getting dangerous.  Look at the picture below.

Ugly scenes as Beijingers snap up last Olympic tickets

BEIJING (AFP) — Violence broke out on Friday among the more than 50,000 people who queued to grab the last batch of Olympic tickets on sale in Beijing, as police struggled to control the frustrated fans.

The mood was tense and strained as angry people — some of whom had been queuing for two days — jostled to maintain or improve their place in the long line.

At one point the surging crowd broke through a control barrier and lurched towards the ticket counters.

In hot and dusty conditions, some groups in the crowd chanted insults at the police who were seen dragging people out of the line and kicking and punching them before leading them away.

“The police didn’t have a clue how many people would come here and there was no organisation at all, it was chaos,” said Wang Zhongliang, a delivery worker for UPS.

It was the last chance for Chinese to buy tickets for the Games, with 250,000 on sale at several locations in Beijing from 9:00am (0100 GMT) for events including athletics, diving, and gymnastics.

Demand was so high that more than 10,000 people were in the line by Thursday at one of the main ticket selling centres near the Olympic Stadium, district police chief Xiong Xingguo said.

By early Friday huge reinforcements of police were moved in to maintain order as numbers ballooned to between 40,000 and 50,000, Xiong said.

Xiong conceded that police had been taken by surprise by the numbers.

“The situation was chaotic and difficult,” he said. “Once the newspapers released the news about the ticket sale, too many people came at once so we had a security problem.”

A Hong Kong journalist was detained by police on Friday while covering the chaotic scenes, organisers and an AFP witness said.

Despite the pushing, jostling and discomfort, Xu Wengang, an information technology expert, said that he thought the method of ticket sales was fair.

“This way everybody gets a chance. But that’s also the problem, because so many people came. It’s a lot of trouble but it’s fair,” said Xu, 30, looking for tickets for the synchronised swimming.

There were smiles too from people like 23-year-old Lei Peng, who had slept on the footpath for two nights.

The engineering graduate from eastern China’s Anhui province was close to the head of one massive queue and managed to score two seats to one of the hottest event of the Games — the final of the men’s 110m hurdles.

Chinese hopes for an athletics gold medal rest on Olympic and world champion Liu Xiang who is defending his 110m hurdles title.

“It was hard but worth it,” said Lei, who had been queuing since midday on Wednesday.

Han Ruxiang, 76, had spent two nights sleeping on a bamboo mat so that he and his 67-year-old wife could see the finals of the diving competition.

“How can you be Chinese and not go to the Olympics when it is in China?” he said. “I am tired but so happy.”

Unlike Han, others were not prepared to queue for themselves.

Ding Ye, 27, said she had got two tickets for the diving competition for her boss who runs a food supply company.

“He sent me in his place,” she said.

There is a flourishing black market in selling tickets at a massive profit, even though scalping has been outlawed. Police have arrested 60 touts over the past two months, according to state media reports.

Outside Beijing, 570,000 tickets for football matches went on sale in football competition host cities Tianjin, Shanghai, Qinhuangdao and Shenyang.

Altogether around seven million tickets were up for sale for the Games, with around 75 percent going to China’s vast domestic audience, with the rest made available overseas through each country’s National Olympic Committee.

Friday’s release of tickets was the fourth and final round of sales for the August 8-24 Games.

This will be a very interesting Olympics

Its only a few weeks to Olympics. There are a lot of excitement in Beijing. I get the feeling this is a lot more than just sports. It will be interesting to watch in the coming weeks.

One and done college basketball players

Brandon Jennings, an Arizona Wildcat recruit, recently decided to go to Europe to play one year for money vs. playing one year at Arizona.  I think this might be a new trend for high school basketball players trying to avoid the 1 year out of high school rule NBA has in place.  I think the rule is a joke for college basketball.  Do these kids really want to go to college at all other than staying one year and then go to the NBA?  I think NBA either needs to force kid to stay at least 2 years or 3 years in college or just let them go to the league straight out of high school.
